The Outer Worlds recently received a new update for current-gen consoles and PCs. With updated visuals, a greater level cap, and all DLC content, The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition promised to deliver the definitive version of Obsidian Entertainment’s RPG game.
However, the update proved more problematic than the developers had hoped for. The Spacer’s Choice Edition saw criticism for the lack of a free upgrade for existing owners, but the game also suffers from poor performance on PC.
Obsidian Entertainment has now apologized to the players and confirmed an upcoming patch to address the issues.

The performance issues were observed across a broad range of hardware. Users with modern graphics cards like the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti could not maintain 60 fps at 1080p, and some also saw dips close to the 30 fps mark.
This led to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition being review bombed on Steam. Many players have likely refunded the game since then, while more dedicated fans are waiting for the announced patch.

A similar instance was seen with CD Projekt Red’s next-gen update for The Witcher 3. Following the update, The Witcher 3 saw poor performance across the board, but CD Projekt Red was quick to release patches.
Obsidian Entertainment has made a similar promise, and fans can only wait to see if The Outer Worlds can return to its former glory with subsequent patches.
