Radeon RX 6000 Performs Around 40% Better In 3DMark DirectX Raytracing

Though Performance Improvement Is Not Much In Games!

After almost two months of wait, AMD Radeon RX 6000 users have finally received new drivers that brings significant performance gains in Ray tracing performance. The latest drivers from AMD are performing marginally better in the 3DMark DXR test based on ray tracing performance.

With the launch of RDNA3 graphics cards from AMD, the red team was quite persistent in fixing all the driver-related issues for the new hardware, leaving RDNA2 graphics card owners in the dark.

Now after two months of wait, RDNA2 users are finally gifted with AMD Software Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1. The release note for the new Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 drivers mentions performance improvements over specific games, though there was no mention of any raytracing performance increase for the latest drivers.

Florin Musetoiu over at Twitter was kind enough to do his testing with his AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card on the new Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 drivers.

According to Florin Musetoiu, the performance on his AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT jumped from 26.20 FPS to 36.20 FPS in the 3DMark DirectX Raytracing test, giving him a total boost of 38.2%.

While in Dying Light 2, using the same system and scene, his performance jumped from 59 FPS to 72 FPS on 1440P resolution with FSR2 enabled. Do note that Florin Musetoiu uses the same setup and settings previously used with Raytracing Reflections and Flashlight turned off.

The performance improvement reported by one user is indeed quite impressive. Though the performance was only measured in one Raytracing title, even though Dying Light 2 has all the Raytracing effects games have to offer, including Ray Traced Global Illumination, Ray Traced Shadows, and Ray Traced Reflections.

A reliable YouTube channel by the name Hardware Unboxed is also conducting its research, giving us better results on how good the new drivers from AMD are.
