Ed Boon Wants To Remaster MK Shaolin Monks!

The Mortal Kombat franchise is decades old, with a strong legacy in the gaming industry. Featuring games like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Mortal Kombat Deception, and Mortal Kombat 11, the franchise has delved into multiple styles of fighting games.

Mortal Kombat has also seen many spin-off games based on the solid line-up of characters in the franchise. These spin-offs include titles like Mortal Kombat: Special Forces and the beloved Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks.

Many fans have come to appreciate Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks for its gameplay mechanics. In a recent tweet, MK creator Ed Boon has once again expressed interest in a remaster for the classic game.

Ed Boon further revealed that the game was initially meant to be single-player, with Raiden serving as the main character

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks delivers a fast-paced brawler with co-op mechanics. Similar to other Mortal Kombat games, it offers a variety of combos and enthralling gameplay to keep players engaged.

Fan-favorite characters like Kung Lao, Liu Kang, Skorpion, and Sub-Zero are featured in the game as main playable characters, allowing players to experiment with combinations of two in co-op. The game also offers a versus mode, which adds a few more characters to the mix.

Much to everyone’s disappointment, Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks has not seen much support from NetherRealm despite the demand for a remaster. Revisiting the spin-off could allow the studio to introduce new mechanics, characters, and online features to the game.

This is not the first time Ed Boon has talked about the game, with previous tweets sharing a similar sentiment toward the fan-favorite game. Going by his words, it looks like the studio might be too wrapped up with other projects to consider a remaster or sequel.

Nonetheless, Ed Boon’s appreciation for the game should give fans some hope for the future of Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. With new additions like online gameplay and the fantastic visuals that NetherRealm is known for, a remaster or follow-up could easily become the best Mortal Kombat game in a long time.
