Last month, it was discovered that Guerilla Games is currently working on a Horizon multiplayer project. The game is yet to be officially announced, and details on the project are presently limited.
However, a few leaked screenshots from the multiplayer game have emerged recently. These images show an early build of the game, but fans are still curious to learn more about the game.
Now it seems like the new online game will not be limited to a single platform as we spotted a job listing for Game Writer (Online Project) at Guerilla Games, which reveals that Horizon Online could also be coming to mobile devices.
As seen above, the job listing specifies the expertise that Guerilla Games is looking for. It states:
“At least one shipped, narrative-heavy mobile game or indie game.”
This could point to a mobile release for the Horizon franchise. Sony has previously expressed interest in expanding their portfolio and existing IPs to different parts of the gaming industry, including mobile gaming.
Looking at previous franchise releases, Sony has expanded the franchise to other markets. The franchise has already been slated for a PlayStation VR2 release this month, and the job listing could hint at a new platform for the Horizon IP.
The Horizon online project also appears to be a smaller scaled game going by the term ‘indie game’ in the listing. This is not too surprising, considering Sony’s unfamiliarity with online games.
While the leaked images discussed earlier are likely from an older build, the screenshots show a less graphically intensive game with a much different art style than Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. A more stylized and less intensive approach could allow Sony to ensure compatibility across various mobile devices if that is the plan.
The Horizon games are among the most critically acclaimed and beloved PlayStation games of the past decade, performing well on PCs and consoles. Sony might be getting ready to continue this success on the mobile platform.
