Hogwarts Legacy climbed to the top of sales charts on Steam and consoles weeks before release. The anticipation for the game continues to grow, and a large number of fans are already playing the game in early access.
While the release date is set for February 10, fans who pre-ordered the Deluxe or Collector’s Edition can already jump in. Hogwarts Legacy has shown incredibly high player counts on Steam so far, reaching nearly 500K concurrent players.
This is an incredible turnout for a brand-new release. For comparison, already-established games like Dead Space Remake managed to gather around 30K concurrent players. A well-known IP like Spider-Man has also seen less than 70K concurrent Steam players with Spider-Man Remastered.
Critical reception for Hogwarts Legacy has also been excellent so far, with largely positive reviews across the board. This may have convinced many people to try the game, further adding to its popularity.
The official release is nearly here, and the game will likely see another boost to player counts once non-deluxe edition owners can play the game. As it stands, Hogwarts Legacy is shaping up to be a rival to record-breaking games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 when it comes to peak concurrent Steam counts.
Despite the positive reception, Hogwarts Legacy has also been surrounded by controversy. A Twitch streamer recently faced harassment from the chat for playing the game, and a few popular Twitch channels have refused to play the game to avoid dealing with such issues.
However, Hogwarts Legacy continues to flourish and will likely go on to be among the best-selling games of the year. Since the game is coming to nearly every modern console, fans have no shortage of options and can play the game on their preferred system.
Hogwarts Legacy includes up to 70 hours of content, appealing to casual and dedicated fans. The game also comes with various side-missions, a large map, and plenty of customization options for Harry Potter fans.
