Highest Rated Studio Thanks To RE4 Remake & More!

Story Highlight
  • Metacritic ranks the best publishers every year.
  • Capcom has won the Metacritic Publisher of the Year title for 2023.
  • Major hits from the publisher include Street Fighter 6, Resident Evil 4, and more.

Like every year, Metacritic has just highlighted the most successful publishers. This is Metacritic’s 14th annual Games Publisher Rankings, and to nobody’s surprise, Capcom has come out on top as the victor.

Why it matters: Capcom found its footing again a few years ago. Since then, the publisher has shown no signs of slowing down, releasing one hit after another.

Metacritic’s 14th annual Game Publisher Rankings include many familiar names. However, Capcom has been picked as the best publisher due to three games that were rated at over 90/100 on the platform.

While the Resident Evil 4 remake remains the most popular release from the studio last year, other games like Street Fighter 6 and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective also managed to score over 90/100 on Metacritic and sold millions of units.

The Japanese developer released 11 titles last year, and while 3 of them scored over 80/100 on Metacritic, the rest were no slouch. Following are the top annual Game Publishers:

  • Capcom – 84.5
  • Raw Fury – 79.1
  • Chorus Worldwide – 77.6
  • Dangen Entertainment – 77.6
  • Annapurna Interactive – 80.2
  • Nintendo – 79.5
  • Aksys Games – 78.5
  • Bethesda Softworks – 80
  • Sega – 78.8
  • Thunderful – 79.1

Of the publishers in the list, Nintendo had a particularly strong showing last year. With releases like Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Wonder, and more, it was a strong contender for the top spot.

Resident Evil 4 Remake

Sony, which came out on top last year, was ranked the 13th-best publisher this year. It should also be noted that only publishers who released five or more distinctive titles last year were included in the rankings.

We believe Capcom was a worthy pick and deserved to win this award. Resident Evil 4 Remake is now dubbed this IP’s fastest-selling release after it achieved 7 million sales, proving how good of a remake it was.

Meanwhile, Street Fighter 6 was equally impressive, making Capcom’s first top spot on this list since 2019 a much-awaited return to form.
