Discussing the recent rumors regarding the upcoming Xbox title, fans began speculating about Killer Instinct’s return. However, insider Nick Baker noted that not only is the reveal not related to the series, but a Killer Instinct title was cancelled.
The wording does suggest that a big Killer Instinct entry was in the works at some point. Whether it was a sequel to Xbox’s entry from 2013 or something entirely different also remains a mystery.
According to the leaker, this particular Killer Instinct title was being worked on by a Japanese developer. This information has only added to fans’ disappointment, especially with many holding the last release in high regard to this day.
With the gaming giant returning to exclusivity, Killer Instinct could serve as a strong first-party contender against PlayStation and Nintendo, especially with a major fighting game like Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls launching exclusively for PlayStation recently.
Fan demand could still lead to a new Killer Instinct entry at some point in the future, but at the moment, it seems Xbox isn’t too concerned about the series.
