Will Adopt Hybrid Switch 2 Design For Flexibility!

Story Highlight
  • Reports indicate that the upcoming Xbox handheld will be based on a hybrid design.
  • Microsoft intends to rival the Nintendo Switch 2 with portable and docked modes.
  • This approach could make the Xbox handheld more capable than everything else on the market.

Xbox confirmed that it would launch its own handheld, in addition to a brand new console, in the future. Ahead of this console’s release, Microsoft is also rumored to be working on a partner handheld to kickstart its entry into the handheld market.

As per new reports, the future Xbox handheld will be very different from most portable systems on the market. Xbox is said to be borrowing Nintendo’s design, offering a hybrid console.

Why it matters: This approach could make Xbox’s handheld the most capable on the market, giving it a unique selling point over the many dozen options currently available to gamers.

As per Windows Central’s latest report, Microsoft’s in-house Xbox handheld aims to compete with the Nintendo Switch 2. Xbox will do this by mimicking the Nintendo Switch 2’s design, offering a docked mode in addition to the traditional handheld experience.

Because of Microsoft’s newfound third-party success, the gaming giant could subsidize this hardware and offer a console that outshines the likes of the Steam Deck and the Nintendo Switch 2.

Moreover, Xbox’s handheld could prove to be significantly more capable than PlayStation’s rumored portable hardware due to this approach. Elsewhere, the report reiterates that a traditional console from Microsoft will arrive in the future for those who prefer the couch-based gaming experience.

It is said that this console may allow the use of Epic Games Store and other third-party applications. If true, the same could be the case for the handheld.

Because the likes of ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, and more have already made handhelds like the Nintendo Switch, Xbox’s decision to use a hybrid console with a docked design could stand out in the market.

The gaming giant has always brought interesting ideas to the table when it comes to hardware design, so it seems this tradition will continue into the next generation.
