Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 gathered insane hype around it due to frequent leaks about the game’s upcoming new features, mods, and map packs. Another reason for the craze for the game is its tie-in launch with Warzone 2.0.
Warzone 1.0 set the bar very high; although it was Activision’s first battle royal attempt, Call of Duty games were known for their fast-paced multiplayer action on creative maps. Still, Warzone shifted the tides entirely for the franchise and introduced a new experience for the fans.
We cannot call the hype around Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.0 a bubble as the beta for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 proved to be the most extensive beta launch in CoD history, sending a clear signal out there that despite the not-so-good recent CoD games, Activision has the potential to bring out a juggernaut that can shake the FPS scene.
The Campaign was released one week earlier for the players who pre-ordered the game, and reviews about the Campaign were positive. On 28th October, Modern Warfare 2 was officially launched globally with multiplayer and Campaign modes. And It broke all the previous records, becoming the biggest Call of Duty launch on Steam in CoD history.
The game sits on its throne with 238,522 24-hour peak concurrent players on Steam. It is the weekend, and usually game peaks this time around, but the 238K mark is not the final threshold Modern Warfare can achieve. The numbers will most likely go up from this point. The premium Battle Royal add-on for the game; Warzone 2.0, is yet to come and will only add to the existing numbers.
Activision made a great start this year with its upcoming games. In their Q2 2022 Earnings Report, they have also recently revealed that multiple third-party studios are working on some premium year two content for their upcoming games.
Across the Call of Duty ecosystem, the teams are well positioned to support these launches with substantial live operations, while also continuing development of new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.
Suppose we go by the rumors of a premium DLC pack featuring all hit Call of Duty Maps coming to Modern Warfare 2 or an all-new resurgence map for Warzone 2.0 under development by multiple third-party studios. Then there’s a lot of content for the fans next year, and this is just the beginning. What are your thoughts about this? Let us know in the comment section below.
