- A Reddit user reported that their brand-new Ryzen 7 9800X3D system stopped functioning after only 20 days.
- The user did not overclock his system, except for AMD EXPO for memory overclocking.
- Gamers Nexus reached out to the original poster and proposed buying the motherboard to conduct further examination.
Since the last report of a burned 9800X3D chip from AMD, things have been rather quiet. However, another unfortunate Redditor has run into the same problem. This time, it does not seem to be a user error.
Why it matters: Incidents like these raise concerns about high-end components’ reliability and safety, potentially impacting consumer trust.
A Reddit post by “t0pli” claims that his brand-new CPU suddenly stopped functioning after only 20 days. As can be seen in the picture below, the motherboard and CPU were found to be damaged.
According to the user his computer shut off while watching some TV series. That said except for AMD EXPO (memory OC), he was utilizing a Ryzen 7 9800X3D on an ASRock Nova X870E motherboard without overclocking.
Furthermore, the system was not only brand-new but also upgraded to the most recent BIOS (BIOS 3.16), available at the time of assembly.
The same thing also happened with the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which caused Asus to face a great deal of criticism because of their unstable BIOS releases. However, according to Reddit, this is the first time a Ryzen 7 9800X3D has been known to explode, on an Asrock board.
Whether this resulted from incorrect mounting or not, is too soon to tell. That said Gamers Nexus contacted the original poster and offered to purchase the motherboard for further examination.
