Ubisoft Now Fires Employee Who Was Initially Suspended for Criticizing the Company’s New Policies

David Michaud-Cromp Worked At Ubisoft For 13 Years!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft just recently suspended an employee for criticizing their return-to-office policy.
  • The employee has now been fired, as per a new report.
  • The report reveals that the employee wanted upper management to face the consequences for their actions, and not the employees.

Late last month, Ubisoft dropped a massive bombshell that it would be cancelling the Sands of Time remake alongside 5 other unannounced projects, in addition to 7 game delays, and 2 studio shutdowns.

With this restructure, the company also announced new policies, including a return-to-office mandate, effectively ending the hybrid/remote work model. The company’s employees weren’t exactly pleased with this decision, and one even rebelled against the French publisher, voicing his frustration on social media.

Ubisoft took note of the situation and placed David Michaud-Cromp under 3-days ‘disciplinary’ unpaid suspension. However, Ubisoft has now terminated the employee despite their 13 years of service to the publisher.

Why it matters: Ubisoft is a hot mess and has been for years. However, the company has now hit rock bottom, and the internal turmoil and worsening conditions for the employees will leave the company dusted if this continues.

Insider Gaming acquired screenshots of the internal communication within Ubisoft following David Michaud-Cromp’s suspension.

In the said screenshots, David was criticizing the studio’s closure and the company’s increased focus on the live-service model that he says “keeps running away to bite us in the b*ll*cks.”

Furthermore, he was also displeased with Charlie Guillemot leading Vantage Studios, the new subsidiary formed alongside Tencent that would lead the publisher’s biggest IPs.

While David did agree that the company needs to cut costs, he voiced that the upper management should reap the consequences and that it’s the employees who face the repercussions while “[executives] keep swimming in millions of dollars.”

Most likely, it was this outrage that led to Michaud-Cromp’s suspension. Still, most of the company probably shares his views.
