"Gamers Expecting Extraordinary Experiences"

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft recently revealed that Star Wars Outlaws failed to meet the sales expectations.
  • Due to that, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed to offer fans an even better experience.
  • However, the CEO has blamed gamers by saying they have extraordinary expectations for video games.

You might be hearing a lot about Ubisoft lately, and that isn’t going to stop anytime soon. The company right now is a complete mess, and due to that, there is an internal investigation going on

The stocks are falling due to the recent failure of Star Wars Outlaws and the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. That said, the CEO has blamed gamers for the poor sales of its recent Star Wars title.

Why it matters: It was pretty much a given that Star Wars Outlaws wouldn’t sell despite being a major game.

Star Wars Outlaws Failed Expectations
The Recent Star Wars Game Failed To Meet Sales And Fans’ Expectations

Ubisoft recently commented that the sales of its recent Star Wars game were below expectations, which has caused turmoil for the gaming giant. However, instead of taking responsibility for the damages, the CEO seems to have blamed the fandom.

Speaking on an investor call recently Yves Guillemot said that delivering a solid quality isn’t enough for the gamers anymore. He thinks that gamers have extraordinary expectations that are hard to meet now

In today’s challenging market and with gamers expecting extraordinary experiences, delivering solid quality is no longer enough.

-Yves Guillemot

He seems to be blaming the fandom for Star Wars Outlaw’s failure. Many criticized the game even before launch, and those hints were enough to determine that it wasn’t going to sell well.

Assassin's Creed Shadows
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Was Delayed Due To The Poor Launch of Star Wars Outlaws

Also, Ubisoft delayed Assassin’s Creed Shadows to polish it further as it wanted to meet the gamer’s extraordinary expectations. The CEO did say that they must strive for excellence in all aspects of their work

So, it seems like there will be improvements done on the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game.

However, the game’s main controversy still revolves around Yasuke, and 3 months is just not enough time to completely replace the protagonist unless a miracle happens.

Even though it might seem like Guillemot is blaming gamers for its recent game’s soft sales, he has a point that many have unrealistic expectations nowadays, which is almost impossible to meet.
