The Witcher 4; Ciri Offers Different Playstyle Than Geralt And Feels More Agile

"Geralt Feels Like A Block, But Ciri Is Like Liquid"

Story Highlight
  • CDPR says Ciri will feel quite different from Geralt in The Witcher 4.
  • Despite being quite fast, Geralt is more on the heavier side than his adopted daughter.
  • Her gameplay will be more nimble and highlight her upbringing in Kaer Morhen.

The Witcher 4’s first trailer gave fans a new glimpse at an older, more battle-hardened version of Ciri. Taking over as the IP’s new protagonist for a full trilogy, Ciri is set to establish her own identity and push CDPR’s RPG formula forward.

In doing so, the character brings a different gameplay style to the table. As per CDPR, Ciri will be much more agile and nimble than Geralt.

Why it matters: Fans have become accustomed to Geralt’s gameplay over three mainline titles. The new style will offer something fresh for newcomers and die-hard fans alike.

During episode 15 of the AnswerRED podcast, CDPR’s Pawel Burza recalled Ciri’s acrobatic abilities from The Witcher 4’s reveal trailer.

He remarked that she used a somersault to finish an enemy off at one point, something Geralt would not do. Pawel Burza then highlighted the major gameplay differences fans can expect after playing The Witcher 3.

While Geralt was never considered slow, his gameplay had a sense of heft that will not carry over to Ciri’s combat. As per the developer, Ciri feels significantly more agile, partially due to her smaller body.

He’s (Geralt) nimble, but he feels like a block in some sense. She’s like liquid compared to him. She’s smaller, which lets her use that to her advantage.

Director Sebastian Kalemba also noted that Ciri’s playstyle will reflect her upbringing in Kaer Morhen.

Geralt Will Also Make An Appearance In CDPR’s Upcoming RPG

Geralt will not be sitting The Witcher 4 out, so CDPR could further highlight the contrast between the two characters throughout the narrative. While his role in the story will be limited, it should be enough to showcase the two protagonists’ fighting styles.
