Red Dead Redemption Remaster Patched With 60FPS On PS5

Finally A Reason To Appreciate Rockstar!

Red Dead Redemption was suddenly announced for modern PlayStation consoles and the Nintendo Switch a few months ago. After much anticipation, the game immediately disappointed fans, leading to a wave of dislikes after the reveal trailer.

A major reason for the outrage was the lack of a 60FPS option in the game. Many believed that the remaster was a quick cash grab from Take-Two despite the publisher claiming otherwise.

While the negativity did not stop the game from selling well, the port’s release did little to change the negative opinions. However, Red Dead Redemption has now received a 60FPS toggle for PS5.

Why it matters: 60FPS is the new bar to reach for console gaming. PS5 and Xbox Series S|X owners look forward to enjoying new and old games at 60FPS since these consoles are capable of hitting this target in most cases.

Patch 1.03 adds a 60fps Toggle to Red Dead Redemption!

As reported by users on Reddit, the game has been secretly patched with a frame rate toggle in the options menu. This has been a pleasant surprise for fans of Rockstar Games and Red Dead Redemption.

While many have been let down by the studio after disappointments like the GTA Trilogy, the 60FPS option has finally given fans a reason to appreciate the studio and porting team Double Eleven Studios.

According to testing, this mode runs very well on the PS5. Unfortunately, Red Dead Redemption continues to be locked at 30FPS on the PS4, possibly due to a CPU bottleneck.

Remasters like Assassin’s Creed 3 went through a similar scenario on this console, being locked at 30FPS despite enhancements in other areas. Like the PS4, the Nintendo Switch version remains capped at 30FPS.

Since Red Dead Redemption was not ported to the Xbox Series S|X, the backward-compatible version for these consoles is also limited to 30FPS. Therefore, the PS5 and PS4 Pro currently provide the only way to enjoy the game at 60FPS on consoles.

While some may still find the $50 asking price a bit too steep for this port, it is undeniably a much better purchase with the added benefit of 60FPS for PS5 users.

The surprise update has also led to hopes for a 60FPS Red Dead Redemption 2 port. A current-generation version was recently mentioned in a report from Xbox, but it remains to be officially confirmed.

Red Dead Redemption follows the journey of John Marston after the events of Rockstar Games’ latest release. Like its sequel, the game is a strong release from the studio, and many are hoping for a PC release later down the line.

In the meantime, PC users can resort to alternate methods, as the game runs well through Nintendo Switch emulation.
