Impressive So Far!

Following the 2017 installment, Forza Motorsport is back with gorgeous visuals and an immersive racing experience.

With Turn 10 gearing to release the IP’s eighth main installment, expectations were high for an incredible racing game that would add to the already impressive Xbox first-party lineup in 2023.

The game is just one week away from release, and reviewers have begun to share their verdicts on Microsoft’s latest attempt at simulation racing. Following 55 reviews on Metacritic, Forza Motorsport has received a score of 84/100.

Why it matters: Forza Motorsport is the last major release for Xbox in 2023, allowing the gaming giant one final opportunity to impress critics and audiences before moving on from the year.

Following are some of the reviews from major outlets:

  • VGC 4/5
  • Windows Central 4/5
  • GamingBolt 9/10
  • Gamespot 9/10
  • God is a Geek 9.5/10
  • Noisy Pixel 9/10
  • IGN 8/10

Forza Motorsport uses the capabilities of Xbox Series S|X to deliver a 4K experience. The game targets 60FPS gameplay, allowing racing fans to enjoy a smooth and responsive experience on the track.

Reviewers have praised the core gameplay, claiming that Turn 10 has nailed the feeling of driving fast in a powerful car. The sense of weight in Forza Motorsport is said to be incredible, and the game finally introduces steering animations beyond 90 degrees in the cockpit view.

Presentation is also better than ever, with Turn 10 using the new consoles to deliver incredible visuals, weather effects, and car models.

Forza Motorsport

On the other hand, the game appears to be less optimized on PC than the last Forza game. While Forza Horizon 5 was considered a benchmark for optimized racing games, Forza Motorsport does not work as well on the platform.

The game’s upgrade path has also received some criticism. Unlike the previous games, Forza Motorsport does not make all upgrades available immediately, encouraging players to spend more time in vehicles for upgrades.

Nonetheless, the game has a lot of positive aspects and room for improvement.

Forza Motorsport fulfills Microsoft’s goal of releasing four first-party titles in 2023, with three great games for Xbox Game Pass users.

The game has breathed new life into Microsoft’s flagship racing franchise. Turn 10 intends to support the game for many years, so fans can expect several improvements and additions as the years go by.

Judging by the reviews, Forza Motorsport is off to a solid start, and it will only get better from here.
