Should We Expect 4K/60FPS In GTA 6?

Story Highlights
  • Sony is preparing to launch the PS5 Pro before GTA 6 arrives.
  • The console is expected to launch in late 2024.
  • PS5 Pro will also look to tackle the low profit margins Sony has recently recorded.

Rumors about an incoming PS5 Pro have been circulating for many months. Sony has remained tight-lipped on the matter, but reliable sources remain confident that the next iteration of Sony’s console is set to launch later this year.

According to CNBC, Sony is gearing up to launch the mid-gen refresh in the latter stages of 2024, mainly to prepare for the arrival of GTA 6.

Why it matters: GTA 6 is destined to be the biggest launch of this decade, encouraging gaming giants like Sony to make preparations.

PlayStation has historically worked closely with Rockstar Games. While the industry is seemingly stagnating in terms of game and hardware sales for the time being, GTA 6 has the potential to change everything.

As one of the few games likely to sell over 100 million units, Sony could use this opportunity to bundle GTA 6 with the PS5 Pro. As such, advertising the platform as the best place to play GTA 6 could be a major marketing beat for Sony in 2025.

In addition, PS5 sales have and will reportedly decline in the future. This would be an ideal time for a ‘Pro’ device to maintain people’s interests.

Sony will want to make sure to have a great piece of hardware ready when GTA VI hits in 2025.

A few days ago, Sony said that the PS5 has now entered its latter stages.

This also hinted that the Pro console would arrive soon. The original PS5 is quite powerful, but for a game like GTA 6, Sony might want to be prepared beforehand since the base hardware might not be able to achieve 60FPS.

Using hybrid ray-tracing and cutting-edge technology, GTA 6 is seemingly pushing new boundaries for console gaming. Fortunately, the PS5 Pro is expected to be quite the upgrade, even offering a form of machine learning.

The PS5 Pro is going to have a big task to handle. The profit margins for Sony have reached a decade-low recently. This might mean the console will be priced higher than expected, but this information will be confirmed during the official announcement.
