PlayStation Reportedly Confident About Fairgame$ Despite Concord Failure

PlayStation's Next Big Live Service Debut After Concord!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation is working on a live-service heist title, which is being developed by Haven Studios.
  • There are concerns about the project after Concord’s failure, but Sony seems confident from internal conversations.
  • Similar reports showed up about Redfall since internal reviews anticipated a much higher score for the game.

While PlayStation delivered successful titles like Helldivers 2 earlier this year, its latest project, Concord, was a terrible failure and led to concern for the gaming giant. PlayStation has now pulled the game from stores and refunded the buyers.

However, PlayStation is still working on a project similar to Concord, a third-person shooter live service title. Fairgame$ from Haven Studios is based on a heist theme, and reports state that initial impressions of the title are quite positive.

Why it matters: Following Concord’s failure, there is further pressure on Fairgame$ since PlayStation would not want to repeat another failure.

Fairgame$ is being led by Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios and was revealed during PlayStation’s major showcase last year.

Not much has been said about the game since then, but Gamesindustry’s Chris Dring recently commented on Sony’s internal impressions of the title. He acknowledged the doubts about this title but had good news to share.

I have heard chatters very positive about it.

What’s interesting is that Fairgame$ is already looking more promising than Concord. Unlike Concord, it belongs to the heist genre. This genre barely has any competition right now, and Payday 3 has not been the biggest success either.

As such, Fairgame$ already has greater chances of success. The trailer was not the most exciting, but PlayStation can certainly do a lot with this title.

However, it is worth noting that Sony may have been similarly confident about Concord. Microsoft also anticipated a much better reception for Redfall, so internal reception is not always the most accurate point of reference.

Anyhow, it’s still too early to say whether this live service project will be a huge success. Elsewhere, PlayStation is working on the likes of Marathon, the Horizon MMO, Bend Studio’s live service game, and more for future live service endeavors.
