Going Strong In The UK!

It has been 2 years since PlayStation 5 launched globally, and even after 2 years, console sales are on an upward trajectory, especially after the end of the global chip shortage. Even the scalper bots have started to lose interest in the PlayStation 5, giving it enough headspace to continue to boom in the console market at standard prices.

According to a recent report by gamesindustry.biz on UK boxed charts, PlayStation 5 holds almost 80% of the console market shares in the UK. The source has compared the sales of the latest AAA games in the region, including The Callisto Protocol, Need for Speed Unbound, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns.

According to the report, The Callisto Protocol debuted at the 6th position on the UK sales charts upon its release, and PlayStation 5 accounts for 76% of the sales, while Xbox Series X stands only at 24% of sales.

Similarly, 78% of the Need for Speed Unbound sales come from the UK PlayStation 5 version of the game. Furthermore, Marvel’s Midnight Suns Xbox version accounts only for 17%, and PlayStation also took the lead here with a staggering 83% of the total sales in the region.

It should be noted that these sales figures are of UK boxed sales, which do not include digital sales and the mentioned sales percentages are from the last week ending on 3rd December 2022.

It should not come as a surprise as in October, it was reported that PlayStation 5 had become the fourth fastest-selling gaming console in the UK with 2 million unit sales. As for global sales, Sony reported in its latest earnings report that PlayStation 5 has sold over 25 Million units worldwide as of November 2022, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation console ever.

This shows that PlayStation has a solid consumer base all around the globe. These reported figures and sales will continue to grow as time passes and the developers switch entirely to the current-gen console games.

So, what are your thoughts about this? Did you expect similar sales results from PlayStation 5 and Sony in the UK? Let us know in the comment section.
