Players Asking EA To Save Anthem, Following Stop Killing Games Petition Rise in Popularity

Stop Killing Games!

Story Highlight
  • Anthem fans are asking EA to save the game by adding an offline mode.
  • The game’s servers will shut down on 12th January 2026.
  • While that fandom is asking EA to save the game, the publisher is unlikely to do so.

Recently, gamers took matters into their own hands and started a massive petition to stop killing the games. The petition garnered over 1 million signatures quickly, prompting the EU IT to take notice.

Even massive publishers have come together and refuse to acknowledge what the fandom demands. Even after the rise in popularity of the petition, these gaming giants still want to reserve their rights to kill a game whenever they want to, for whatever reason. Following that, fans have requested that EA save Anthem by adding an offline mode.

Why it matters: Killing games that fans have paid money for should be a crime and must not be allowed at any cost. The giant publishers are opposed to the Stop Killing Games petition, but they should at least add an offline mode to the game for fans who still want to play the title.

Those not in the know, Anthem is shutting down on January 12, 2026, so people who spent $60 on the game won’t own it anymore next year, which should be considered a violation. That is exactly why European citizens have taken the initiative to launch a ‘Stop Killing Games’ campaign.

There are many people supporting this campaign, but the publishers refuse to budge, as why would they ever listen to the fandom? Now, fans are asking EA to release an offline mode for Anthem before the servers are inevitably taken offline, which the publisher is unlikely to listen to.

I wish they would enable offline mode or P2P.

Offline mode. I haven’t played it in years, but I really don’t see how they can’t do this.

Anthem's Storyline Had Potential
EA is taking Anthem offline next year on January 12th

While the fandom wants an offline mode, it is worth noting that the game completely stops whenever the internet connection goes offline, so it is designed to be played with an active internet connection.

Additionally, if enemy interactions are server-based, as in World of Warcraft and Destiny, then it would be nearly impossible to develop an offline mod unless it undergoes a major overhaul, which EA is unlikely to do.

Private servers are also an option, but that would be pretty risky, so it is unlikely fans will get what they want.
