- CDPR CEO Michal Nowakowski says that over 100 veteran Witcher developers are involved with the next mainline game.
- Some of these developers have worked on Witcher 1 and 2, including the story director who is involved with Witcher 4.
- Michal’s replies suggest that almost half the original Witcher 3 team remains at CDPR after almost a decade.
After many years with The Witcher 3, fans finally got to see the next main title in the franchise in last year’s The Game Awards show. The trailer—which was rendered on the RTX 5090—stole most of the spotlight from the massive event. It also bumped up CDPR’s stocks up by over 70% last year.
However, Ciri becoming the new protagonist and DEI controversies aside, the gaming scene was also worried about the new development team rumored to be working on The Witcher 4.
CD Projekt Red CEO Michal Nowakowski has squashed those speculations by claiming that over 100 veteran Witcher franchise developers are involved with the next mainline title.
Why it matters: This confirms that The Witcher 4 will not be developed by new hires who may not grasp the full essence of the franchise.
The CEO tweeted that over a hundred developers from The Witcher 3, including veterans from the first two games, are working on The Witcher 4. The original Witcher’s story director is also leading the new saga.
Previously, Michal claimed in the same thread that CDPR is not collaborating with Sweet Baby Inc., on The Witcher 4. He noted that the studio did not even know of its existence until recently.
All in all, it is now confirmed that CDPR has managed to keep almost half of The Witcher 3’s development team.
