Recent leaks reveal that Nintendo Switch 2, will be able to output 4K resolution at 30 FPS when docked. This information comes from a Reddit user named NextHandheld, who says they have seen the final retail version of the console.
Why it matters: If the leaks are true, it’s still quite impressive for a handheld console to deliver 4K quality visuals at 30 FPS.
The original Nintendo Switch, launched in 2017, supports 1080p when docked. The Switch 2’s upgrade to 4K resolution will greatly boost the overall visual quality. However, the 30 FPS limit may let down gamers hoping to experience 60 FPS at 4K finally.
The source also mentions that the Nintendo Switch 2 dock uses 60 watts of power and 45 watts of charging, up from the original’s 39 watts.
This suggests improved performance when docked. The dock is also said to have improved cooling features to handle the extra power.
The Switch 2 is also rumored to come with new Joy-Con controllers that attach magnetically and feature hall-effect joysticks. These joysticks are built to be more reliable and less likely to experience the drift problems that affected the original Switch controllers.
In another leak, the handheld’s full design and accessories were revealed. A certain case manufacturer casually leaked the Switch 2’s design, which revealed its dimensions and extra button on a joystick.
While these leaks offer interesting details about the Switch 2, it’s important to remember that Nintendo has not confirmed anything. The company is reportedly planning to reveal the console before March 2025, so keep your eyes peeled for that one.
