- The Nintendo Switch 2 is receiving third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and more.
- Analysis suggests Cyberpunk 2077 drops as low as 540p on the hybrid console while offering an unstable 30FPS.
- CDPR and Nintendo are still working on optimizing the game for the new hardware.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is no longer a mystery, with the latest Direct revealing plenty of juicy details about Nintendo’s latest hybrid console.
In addition to supporting 120FPS gameplay, DLSS, and more, the console is third-party compatible with the latest and greatest AAA titles. This includes games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, although performance may not always be impressive.
Why it matters: The resolution and frame rate targets in titles like Cyberpunk 2077 reveal how the Nintendo Switch 2 will hold up in future titles, setting a precedent for the next few years.
As reported by Digital Foundry, the game runs between 540p and 1080p on the console. The 540p resolution seems to correspond to handheld gameplay, while the docked model provides improved image quality.
Moreover, the report outlines typical resolutions like 720p, 792p, etc. The frame rate also appears capped at 30FPS, although various shots highlight the game failing to stick to this target during intense moments.
The analysts believe Cyberpunk 2077 still looks good overall, but they have been unable to find any traces of DLSS in Nintendo’s video footage. Still, Nintendo has clarified that the hardware itself supports the upscaling technology.
CDPR and Nintendo are currently working on further optimizations for the title, so it remains to be seen how well Cyberpunk 2077 will run on the Nintendo Switch 2 come launch day.
If nothing else, the game should offer a better experience than on the PS4 and Xbox One.
