The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced a while back, with the gaming giant confirming more information for an April Direct. This Direct has now gone live, revealing various new details regarding the console, including the hardware’s technical specifications.
As per Nintendo, its latest hybrid console supports 1080p 120FPS gameplay in portable mode, a major upgrade over the last-gen console.
Why it matters: 120FPS gameplay made its way to rival consoles this generation, so fans will be glad to see that Nintendo is trying to stay competitive with the other gaming giants.
The Nintendo Switch 2 also supports 4K gameplay in Docked mode, although fans should expect only a few games to reach these ambitious resolution targets.
Nintendo has confirmed that the handheld will launch with an LCD instead of an OLED panel. The former has improved significantly over the last-gen panel, offering more vibrant colors, HDR support, and a 7.9-inch screen.
As for the higher refresh rate, Nintendo is set to offer upgrades for various last-gen games. These include the likes of Metroid Prime 4, which will support 120FPS gameplay in performance mode.
Finally, the gaming giant has confirmed a June 5 launch date for the new hardware. The base console will be sold for $449, while the Mario Kart World Bundle will pair the console with a game for $499.99.
Nintendo’s latest Direct has revealed quite a few exciting details about the new hardware. With just two months left before the release, fans are now more excited than ever to see what the next generation of Nintendo’s gaming experiences has to offer.
Analysts are already predicting a huge launch, with many betting on 6 million sales at release.
