- High RAM prices push consumers toward older, cheaper DDR4 components.
- Previous-gen models like the 5800X3D outsell newer chips, though the current-gen 9800X3D also sells well.
- Intel is almost absent from top-10 charts, with only the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus showing strong sales.
High memory prices are pushing many consumers toward older, more affordable components rather than the latest releases. We can see clearly in CPU sales, as AMD’s older Ryzen 5000 series chips are still outperforming newer Ryzen 7000 and 9000 models at major retailers such as Mindfactory.
The same is seen at Micro Center, where the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D remains the best-selling CPU in the Top 10 list, while Intel has only one processor appearing on the list. In GPU sales, AMD has also begun to show its dominance,e with Radeon cards accounting for a third of all GPUs sold.
At MicroCenter in the United States, the best-selling CPU is the 5800X3D, priced at $349.99. Paying this much for a 2022 CPU may seem silly, but it allows DDR4 RAM, which is cheaper than DDR5. However, for the second best-selling CPU, we return to DDR5, with the 9800X3D priced at $419.99. Interestingly, Intel has a CPU in the top three: the Core Ultra 7 270K Plus, which is by far the most popular and the only Intel CPU in the top 10.
Moreover, we have the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which costs $349.99 and is similar to the 5800X3D but substantially more powerful. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D, ranked fifth, is significantly faster with 16 cores. The Ryzen 5 7600X3D, at $199.99, is a more affordable option.
The Ryzen 9 9850X3D takes seventh spot, followed by the Ryzen 7 5800XT and the Ryzen 5 5500 in ninth. Furthermore, Microcenter Director Rick Machado claims that Radeon GPUs are more popular than in prior generations. Despite NVIDIA’s success, he thinks that Radeon graphics cards account for roughly one-third of total GPU sales, with the RX 9070 XT being the most popular.
In other comparisons, the best-selling CPU on Amazon in the United States is the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, followed by the 5500 and 5800X3D, both AM4. We also find an Intel CPU here, but only in 14th place:h the i7-14700K. Finally, Newegg shows that the 9800X3D is once again the best-selling model, followed by the 5800X3D and the 5500. The Core Ultra 7 270K Plus ranks fifth on this American site, which is consistent with MicroCenter’s results.
