Horizon Franchise Planned To Continue For Very Long While

Prepare For More Horizon Games!

Horizon Forbidden West is the latest offering from PlayStation’s Horizon franchise. The latest title has been well received, selling over 8.4 million copies, adding up to nearly 33 million total sales for the franchise.

Both games in the Horizon franchise have received various awards, with the latest title also being nominated for Game of The Year at TGA. Following this success, a new statement confirms Guerrilla Games does not plan to abandon the series anytime soon.

Why it matters: The Horizon franchise is among PlayStation’s latest and most successful first-party offerings. Guerrilla Games introduced the IP on PS4, and its success could ensure the series continues for several generations.

PlayStation 5 Horizon Forbidden West

As reported by GamesRadar, the developer recently said the Horizon series is:

“going to be continuing for a very long while.”

The studio has already confirmed the next game in the Horizon trilogy. However, this is a small part of the plans for the successful PlayStation IP.

An online Horizon project is also in development. The game is expected to feature co-op elements with stylized visuals. A job listing has recently pointed to the game releasing on mobile platforms.

Van Beek from Guerrilla Games noted that the online project is a massive shift for the studio and compared it to the first Horizon game. For the unfamiliar, the studio was previously famous for FPS games.

However, Horizon Zero Dawn marked a shift to a third-person action-adventure game focused on narrative. Since the developer has already succeeded in a massive shift, fans are hoping the studio can pull off another success with the online game.

The studio also confirms that 16 plans are being considered for the future of the IP.

The Horizon games have been well-received for their engaging narrative and jaw-dropping visuals. Future games will leverage the full power of the current-gen PS5, exploring Aloy’s narrative further as she discovers the Horizon universe.

A brand-new single-player game and an online title should also ensure that the studio can appeal to multiple players, making the series even more popular.
