Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Allegedly In Developement

Following Incredible Success of First Game!

Hogwarts Legacy has cemented itself as a massive release in 2023. Apart from incredible reception from fans and critics, the game made around $850 million in just 2 weeks.

It also went on to become the biggest 2023 launch on Steam with 880K concurrent players, a title it still holds as the year is nearing its end. Following this success, a sequel was all but confirmed.

A new leak appears to provide further evidence for a new game, claiming that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy has begun development.

Why it matters: The studio had previously confirmed that no DLC was planned for the game. As such, the developers may have already begun work on a new project instead of downloadable content.

Previously, the developer of Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software, was looking for a software engineer to join the team, and the job listing pointed to an unannounced AAA title.

While it did not say much beyond this, the job listing led to speculation about a potential sequel to Hogwarts Legacy. The leaker’s report appears to line up with the previous speculation.

As stated earlier, Hogwarts Legacy was a massive success. According to a report, it was the most successful release in Q1 2023, even surprising the developer as it sold twice the number of copies the developer had expected.

Therefore, Avalanche Studios may be looking to use a sequel to capitalize on the current momentum and buzz around the IP.

Hogwarts Legacy

The first game has already laid a solid foundation for an open-world Harry Potter game, and a sequel could expand on this groundwork.

Gameplay additions like Quidditch could further add to the charm of the Harry Potter universe in Hogwarts Legacy, allowing Avalanche Software to expand on an already well-received game.

Given how well Hogwarts Legacy has been received, a sequel was always highly likely to be made. The new leak provides more hope for another AAA Harry Potter experience, but it may take a few years to be released.
