Helldivers 2 Steam Reviews Fall To Mixed After Constant Server Issues

Over 30% of Reviews Are Now Negative!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 is constantly hitting its maximum server capacity.
  • This has led to long queues and fans being unable to play the game.
  • As a result, the game’s Steam reviews are now mixed.

Helldivers 2 has been a game-changer for PlayStation. As a day-one live service release, it is setting a strong precedent for future PlayStation games, becoming the biggest Steam release from the gaming giant so far.

However, nobody saw this success coming. Arrowhead Game Studios, while pleasantly surprised, is now struggling to increase server capacity amid current demand. This has also resulted in many negative reviews on Steam with an overall mixed reception.

Why it matters: Helldivers 2 already started with mixed reviews on the platform, but the game’s shifting perception meant that this rating quickly changed due to thousands of positive reviews.

While more than 75% of the Steam reviews were positive after launch, Helldivers 2 has begun to receive more negative attention recently. Around 32% of nearly 96K reviews are currently negative.

The main culprit appears to be  Arrowhead Game Studios’ failure to cope with the current demand. According to the studio, the game had over 500K concurrent players across all platforms at its peak, but Steam player counts alone have risen by over 70K since then.

The team has already increased server capacity various times. However, each update leads to an influx of new players.

Helldivers 2 is currently trending on social media and streaming sites like YouTube. This has led to hundreds of thousands of players looking to join the game, but the gameplay experience is inconsistent for the time being.

Players who have been able to join the servers are fond of the game, while others struggle to go past the menus.

Some also believe the game should be permanently taken down for a few days. This could allow PlayStation and Arrowhead Game Studios to permanently address the problems, though the team might not want to lose its current momentum.
