Incredible Results For First Day-One PC Launch!

Story Highlights
  • Helldivers 2 was just released two hours ago.
  • The game was already Steam’s top-selling title before launch.
  • It has also become PlayStation’s third-biggest PC launch, reaching over 57K concurrent players.

Helldivers 2 just hit the PC platform a few hours ago, and the game is already proving to be a great success for PlayStation and Arrowhead Game. One day before release, this co-op shooter became the best-selling title on Steam, beating titles like Palworld.

Fast-forward to today, the game has created a new record, becoming one of PlayStation’s biggest PC games.

Why it matters: Helldivers 2 marks PlayStation’s first venture into day-one releases on PC. This outcome proves that Sony would benefit from releasing games sooner on the platform.

As seen above, Helldivers 2 has reached over 57K concurrent players on Steam within hours of its PC release.

Though the numbers are already impressive, they continue to rise with each passing minute. Therefore, we can expect even better figures once the weekend comes around.

This milestone makes it PlayStation’s third-biggest PC release in terms of peak concurrent player counts. This title was previously held by Horizon Zero Dawn, the best-selling Sony game on the platform.

Horizon Zero Dawn peaked at 56.5K concurrent players. Meanwhile, God of War remains in the top spot with 73.5K concurrent players. Similarly, Spider-Man Remastered is in second place with 66.4K peak concurrent players.

Many were not fond of PlayStation’s live service push. However, if Helldivers 2 is any indication, the gaming giant is on the right track. It intends to release various multiplayer games in a similar vein, promising day-one releases for PC to increase its user base.

Despite the encouraging numbers, Helldivers 2 has run into a few roadblocks early on.

Many have left negative reviews for the game on Steam, citing the anti-cheat used by the developers. Only 54% of the reviews are positive despite the number of players currently logged in to the title.

The media is also yet to review the game. While Helldivers was far from PlayStation’s biggest IP, it was always considered an underrated gem by its fanbase, so it will be interesting to see how the sequel performs later this week.

In the future, live-service PlayStation titles like Concord and Fairgame$ will follow suit, launching as day-one titles on PC. PlayStation’s next major PC port, Horizon Forbidden West, is also coming in March.

Therefore, the gaming giant has a lot to keep PC gamers engaged in the near future.
