- GTA 6 will feature the IP’s first female protagonist, Lucia.
- The story will be based on the infamous robbers of the 1930s, Bonnie and Clyde.
- The Bonnie and Clyde story gives us an idea of how GTA 6 might play out.
GTA 6 has been finally revealed with an explosive first trailer. This trailer shows the first-ever female protagonist in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, confirming the dynamic duo of Jason and Lucia.
Why it matters: While the original Grand Theft Auto in 1997 had female characters, they were just avatars without any dialogue or meaningful story. Therefore, the introduction of a female lead opens up new possibilities for this IP in the modern era.
Reports suggest that the story will be based on Bonnie and Clyde, two infamous robbers responsible for various crimes reported from 1932 to 1934. They were also lovers, which holds true for the current GTA 6 protagonists.
With the story based on Bonnie and Clyde, we can predict how it will play out. The couple is at large and running away from the authorities after a series of crimes. This dynamic should lead to quite a few engaging missions and stories.
While Bonnie and Clyde did not have the best ending, Rockstar Games could take a few creative liberties and alter the narrative to their liking. Nonetheless, it seems we have an emotional love and crime story on our hands.
Lucia is the female protagonist’s name, while her male counterpart’s isn’t revealed in the trailer. However, leaks from 2022 already suggested that the male protagonist is called Jason.
In the trailer, we see them speeding across Vice City’s invariant vehicles and a very dense environment with a map that is reportedly much bigger than GTA 5’s Los Santos.
Other than that, social media seems to be a heavy influence on GTA 6. The trailer shows people partying and making videos in a reel-like format, suggesting there might be a social media application for players to use.
While the trailer looks fantastic, GTA 6 is not coming out before 2025. For now, the game is also confirmed for the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X, making it disappointing for PC gamers.
Following Rockstar Games’ trend, the PC port is expected to arrive a year or two later, but the studio has yet to confirm this detail.
