- Gothic Remake arrives later this year, bringing revamped combat, visuals, and more.
- THQ Nordic is also interested in remaking the second game.
- The publisher has ideas in place for a second project but remains fully dedicated to the first remake for now.
Gothic Remake is set to launch sometime later this year, completely revamping this classic RPG along the way. THQ Nordic’s work with developer Alkimia Interactive has resulted in huge upgrades to visuals, combat, and storytelling, and the team has also kept the series’ original charm intact.
Following this very exciting remake, THQ Nordic is even interested in remaking the second Gothic title.
Why it matters: Remakes and remasters have never been more popular, allowing THQ Nordic to continue reintroducing older Gothic titles to new audiences.
In an interview with Tech4Gamers, publisher THQ Nordic discussed plans for the series’ future after the remake.
Although all efforts are focused on making Gothic Remake as excellent and polished as possible, the studio is already considering the potential for a Gothic 2 Remake. In fact, the team suggests that it already has ideas for such a project.
Naturally, we’d love to work on Gothic 2, and we already have lots of ideas. Fortunately, with Gothic 2, there’s far less that needs changing or refining.
THQ Nordic also explained that a remake of Gothic 2 would not need nearly as many changes as the first game because it has fewer story gaps and plot holes.
Originally, Gothic 2 launched in 2002, making it over two decades old, like its predecessor. The game continued to build on the original’s foundations and also introduced some much-needed improvements to the core combat and controls.
Because the franchise is held in such high regard and RPGs are thriving at the moment, fans would certainly enjoy seeing another Gothic remake after the first release.
What do you think about a potential second Gothic remake? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
