- The next Ghost Recon is still struggling, with the latest internal alpha test failing to meet objectives.
- Unrealistic deadlines and poor planning are among the biggest setbacks the game is experiencing.
- The next mainline Far Cry title’s development progress is also in a very rough spot.
Even after the recent resizing earlier this year that saw studio closures and project cancellations, it seems that not all of Ubisoft’s flagship IPs are advancing smoothly in development.
The next Ghost Recon, Project OVR, is expected to be the studio’s next big endeavor after Black Flag Resynced, but the latest updates highlight that it is still struggling in the early alpha stages of development.
A new report confirms that the latest alpha testing reportedly failed to meet internal objectives.
Why it matters: The future of the Ghost Recon and Far Cry franchises could be in danger if the subsequent projects don’t improve enough.

The report by Insider Gaming mentions that this shaky development timeline has led Ubisoft to bring in Bruno Galet as senior producer to helm the Project OVR team.
It is failing to make any substantial progress because of ‘unrealistic deadlines.’ Meanwhile, poor management and planning are also blamed, with sources arguing that the directors are ‘doing what they want’ instead of listening to HQ feedback.
Alternative production plans have been proposed, but the Ubisoft HQ has rejected them thus far, putting the future of Ghost Recon at risk.
On a positive note, the game’s foundation appears to be strong, and it remains a high-priority project for the company.

A lack of meaningful progress has already led to ‘silent layoffs,’ and more staff resizing is expected in the future.
Ubisoft is even considering a complete internal reboot or an outright cancellation in favor of a different entry if Project OVR does not make progress soon. It has already survived Ubisoft’s purge once in the past.
For those not in the know, the next Ghost Recon title is reportedly inspired by Ready or Not and takes place in Vietnam.
The next mainline Far Cry game is reported to be in a similar ‘abysmal’ state.
