- The voice of Geralt, Doug Cockle, has raised concerns about AI tools cloning actors’ voices without permission.
- The Witcher voice actor said he would sue platforms using his voice without consent if it were up to him.
- He expressed fears regarding AI making racist, misogynist, etc. remarks using the voice of popular actors and characters.
As AI adoption grows in the industry, voice actors are among those who have expressed the most concern regarding AI use in upcoming games.
Although CDPR is not using AI to a huge extent for now, The Witcher voice actor Doug Cockle is also quite distressed about the potential of AI replicating Geralt’s voice. He says that he would sue AI companies into the ground if given the opportunity.
Why it matters: Geralt’s is beloved across the games industry due to the popularity of The Witcher 3. Misuse of the voice would upset both the fans and the voice actor.

Doug Cockle, best known as the English voice of Geralt in The Witcher games, has discussed his grievances with AI technology.
Speaking to Polygon, he described AI voice replication as nothing but theft, expressing fears that AI companies reproducing the work of voice actors could rob them of potential jobs and income.
Cockle says that reproducing someone’s voice through a database is completely unethical. This is why he is willing to go as far as to sue companies responsible for this work.
If I had the power, the money, and the influence, I would sue every single AI platform out there with my voice on it. I would sue them into the ground.

Doug Cockle is especially worried about malicious AI use. He stated that AI could be used to make racist or inappropriate remarks using Geralt’s voice, which would be bad for both him and the beloved character.
More than anything else is that they could make Geralt say horrible things. They could make Geralt a racist. They could make him a misogynist.
