With the Gears of War franchise closing on its 20th anniversary next year, Xbox has officially announced a second stand-alone remaster of the original game.
Gears of War: Reloaded officially releases on August 26th for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the PS5.
Why it matters: Hailed as one of the most iconic and influential video games, Gears of War deserves another remaster since the last one was about a decade ago. It would introduce the game to a whole new audience as Xbox works on the next mainline entry in the franchise.
Gears of War: Reloaded is being developed by Coalition Games in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief and will feature 4k resolution and 120FPS. Additionally, players can expect zero loading screens during the campaign, enhanced visual effects, textures, shadows, and resolution with minimal aliasing.
Moreover, the game will also feature cross-progression and cross-play across all platforms. However, cross-play will require players to sign in to their Microsoft accounts on the PS5 and PC.
The game will be priced at just $39.99 and will include all content from 2015’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, along with post-paid DLC items, multiplayer modes, maps, characters, and cosmetics that were previously locked behind progression.
Like any other Xbox first-party game, Gears of War: Reloaded will also be a Day One Game Pass title. However, if players have purchased Gears of War Ultimate Edition before today’s announcement, they can expect a free copy to be delivered to eligible players before launch.
Beyond this remaster, the next mainline entry, Gears of War: E-Day, is actively being worked on. The prequel game is set to release next year, as per leaks
