After many years of anticipation, The Coalition announced its latest game, Gears of War E-Day. Having made its debut at the Xbox Games Showcase just over a week ago, this title is said to be targeting a 2025 launch.

This announcement is important for multiple reasons. While it marks the return of the IP, it also brings back the iconic duo that fans grew fond of several years back. Thanks to this exciting announcement, it appears the whole Gears of War series is experiencing a massive resurgence.

Why it matters: Interest in this series has never been higher. Since The Coalition is set to release a prequel, many newcomers are looking to delve into Gears of War.

As reported by Trueacheivements, recent Xbox data suggests that Gears of War: Ultimate Edition saw a 323% spike in player counts soon after The Coalition’s recent announcement.

The title was released nearly a decade ago and tells the story of the very beginning of this franchise. It’s also the closest experience to Gears of War E-Day that fans can find since the upcoming entry is said to revisit the IP’s roots and tell a darker story.

Moreover, the report states other entries in the franchise have gone through a similar resurgence. For instance, Gears 5 saw a 66% spike in the number of Xbox players. Meanwhile, Gears 4 saw a similar spike, with player counts rising by 64%.

While these two games have a different tone, they still carry the same punchy gameplay that the series is famous for. However, we recommend the first game for those looking to try the IP for the first time.

Needless to say, The Coalition’s return has everyone excited for the future. The game is also said to come with multiplayer, with the team aiming to emulate all the best elements this third-person shooter IP is known for.
