There has always been a debate about the better subscription service between PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass. This may not be the case anymore, as Sony has admitted that Game Pass is far ahead of PlayStation Plus.
The body responsible for overseeing market regulation in the UK, the CMA, has published the response of nine different developers on Microsoft’s merger with Activision Blizzard.
The document also contains Sony’s response. Sony said:
“It is beyond doubt that Game Pass is far ahead of PlayStation Plus.”
There is no doubt that PlayStation Plus has become a direct competitor to Game Pass with recent additions like PS Plus Extra and Premium, but it has been made clear that it will take a long time for PS Plus to get on even terms with Game Pass.
Both subscription services provide various quality games, but PlayStation lacks the benefit of day-one releases. Xbox Game Pass owners have already seen games like Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty and Hi-Fi Rush at launch, and Starfield is also expected to come soon.
Sony is admitting its shortcomings, which highlights Microsoft as the better platform. The main incentive behind Sony’s confession could be to slow down the Microsoft merger with Activision Blizzard.
Sony’s main claim is that even if they accept the 10-year COD deal on consoles, Microsoft still has ways to attract consumers toward Xbox. The other concern is that Microsoft might increase the prices of its Call of Duty license to weaken PlayStation Plus or the PlayStation console.
The concerns seem valid as Sony is one of the biggest gaming and tech platforms. Sony does not want the COD deal, as they are in favor of blocking the merger. Also, Sony believes that Microsoft might sabotage them with a buggy COD version.
Hopefully, a final decision on the merger will be made soon so both companies can be fully focused on providing quality games for consumers. Aside from that, what do you think of Sony claiming Game Pass to be better? Are you a Game Pass or PS Plus user?
