There is no doubt that Game Pass, the service home to 34 million, is a great deal for the customers. But, even for smaller studios that mainly focus on indie titles, the subscription service is nothing short of a blessing.

According to a developer, this service often helps indie teams stay afloat.

Why it matters: Indie games are often considered the heart of this subscription. While Microsoft offers an extensive range of AAA games, much of this subscription’s appeal comes from smaller games.

According to Edge Magazine via Reddit, Gareth Damian Martin, the developer behind Citizen Sleeper, has stated that Game Pass has been essential in saving many indie studios.

He believes this service often allows teams an opportunity to continue making games, even though the money is not a big deal for Microsoft.

2024 has been challenging for gaming, but Game Pass has been a positive influence for such teams. He further said that many people aren’t usually interested in the indie games.

However, they try them simply because they are on the subscription service. Since players can try the titles at no additional cost, these indie developers directly benefit from the service.

This has also been true for Citizen Sleeper. Fans tried it because it was on Game Pass, and the general consensus was very positive. The developers are planning to launch the sequel on Microsoft’s subscription service as well. 

Another excellent example of a title that exploded due to Game Pass is Vampire Survivors. Meanwhile, the developers behind Lies of P have appreciated the service in the past.

Not too long ago, Xbox became Diablo 4’s lead platform after the RPG was added to this service. All in all, there are more than a few examples that highlight why the subscription is so universally beloved.
