Possibly Working On Final Fantasy 9 Remake!

Story Highlight
  • Naoki Yoshida and his team launched Final Fantasy 16 last year.
  • They are working on two brand new titles.
  • Following reports of Final Fantasy 9 Remake, one of these projects is said to be this remake.

2024 hasn’t been great so far for Square Enix, as the company has seen its stock hit the lowest in 13 years. The recent entries in the Final Fantasy franchise, like Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, have also failed to live up to the expectations.

However, the franchise appears to be staying put, as Yoshi-P, the Final Fantasy 16 Producer, confirms that his team is currently working on two unannounced titles that should be revealed soon.

Why it matters: Final Fantasy is Square Enix’s biggest and most successful franchise, with over 185 million copies sold already.

The Team Is Still Supporting Final Fantasy 16 and 14

During a recent interview with Gamer.nl, Yoshi P, the Japanese video game producer and director working for Square Enix, discussed the studio’s recent changes and their influence on the team.

The developer talked about how these changes have had no influence at all. They didn’t have to fire anybody or change the team. On the other hand, they are looking for more developers to join the work.

Further talking about the future, Yoshi-P confirms that his teams are working on two new unannounced titles.

There may be some announcements soon about two new games that we’re working on.

While Yoshi-P didn’t reveal much about the unannounced titles, there have been many rumours of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake for a long time. Therefore, fans speculate that Final Fantasy 9 Remake may be the title in question.

The producer has also mentioned that it’s time for another Final Fantasy Tactics, suggesting that one of the upcoming titles could be a sequel to this fan-favorite title. Fortunately, Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Showcase are right around the corner.

This means that the new announcements could be made there.

Naoki Yoshida and his team are also supporting Final Fantasy 14 with new content. Elsewhere, the team is working to bring Final Fantasy 16 on PC, so fans can expect plenty of updates from this studio soon.
