Story Highlight
  • A private user on Steam scammed millions of Steam points after promising players a free Hollow Knight Silksong copy in return.
  • The player was banned, and the lost points have been returned to their original users.
  • The hype of the game is through the roof as every platform has crashed after its launch.

Hollow Knight Silksong has been one of the most anticipated indie games of all time, so it’s no surprise that the metroidvania’s launch has moved mountains in the gaming world. Besides the rave reviews and criticism over its bugs, every aspect of the game is a hot topic of conversation in the gaming world.

The Team Cherry title broke almost every platform it launched on, including Steam. Players wanted to play the game so much that they even fell for a scam in the general discussion forum that promised to give away Hollow Knight Silksong.

Why This Matters: Players falling for an obvious scam on Steam is an indication of how hyped and in-demand Hollow Knight Silksong is.

According to user aesir on Steam’s general discussion forum, a private account offered free copies of the indie title in exchange for Steam points, and unfortunately, many people fell for the scam. Players transferred millions of Steam points collectively just to get a chance to experience Hollow Knight Silksong for free.

But, as it turned out, this was a little too good to be true, and Steam took notice and banned the user after they failed to provide free copies. According to Aesir on the same forum, the Steam points players earned were returned to their accounts, with the original poster even showing an email.

However, not everyone received their lost currency in this ordeal, with many saying Steam has never refunded such transactions in the history of the platform.

The game’s price point has been a big discussion, as its $20 price tag is basically considered a freebie in this day and age, with many fans feeling they underpaid for a game that hit 500k players at launch and even made devs move release dates.
