Ex-Rockstar Dev Says GTA 6 Could Still Be Delayed For Up To 6 Months

Chances Are Low But Another Delay Isn't Impossible!

Story Highlight
  • Former Rockstar developer Mike York reportedly said GTA 6 could still be delayed by up to six months.
  • He says that another delay would not hurt the game or Rockstar at this point.
  • According to the developer, Rockstar will do whatever it needs to for the sake of the game.

After multiple delays, fans are finally closer than ever to the release of GTA 6. Rockstar Games is also preparing to kick off marketing efforts for the title, but the threat of a delay still looms over the game, at least according to a former Rockstar developer.

As per the developer, GTA 6 could still be delayed.

Why it matters: The entire industry is patiently waiting for GTA 6, and many have even based their 2026 release windows on the game’s release date.

GTA 6 Will Feature A Lot of Variety

Speaking to Indy100, former Rockstar developer Mike York said GTA 6 could still be pushed back by several months if Rockstar decides the game needs more time.

The former developer says this due to Rockstar’s usual approach to polish. The studio has a long history of taking extra time on major releases, and it will almost certainly take as much time as needed for GTA 6.

Based on my previous experience, they could delay it again. If November comes around and they’re thinking ‘this final mission we have is still not looking very good, and there are still a few bugs in the final mission,’ they’ll push it six more months if they have to.

Mike York also says that another delay would not hurt the game. Though it may temporarily lead to disappointment, all fans will likely show up in time for GTA 6’s launch all the same in case of another delay.

Of course, Take-Two and Rockstar don’t expect a delay for the time being. Fans also have their fingers crossed, with hopes high that the team will stay true to its word on the November launch date.

What do you think about the former Rockstar developer’s statement? Do you think another delay will happen?
