Moreover, this price change has even led to a controversy, with Asus cancelling a buyer’s RTX 5090 order due to price changes.
Why it matters: Memory shortages and pricing updates have made the already-expensive RTX 5090 even more unaffordable. Even those willing to pay exuberant prices are not happy with this update.
ASUS is currently facing criticism after a reported RTX 5090 order cancellation left a customer being asked to pay more for the same graphics card after payment had already gone through.
According to Redditor u/IndependentOK1301, he paid $4,607 for an ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5090 but later had the order canceled following a price increase. The customer was then asked to pay $5,090 to complete the purchase.
Moreover, the Redditor says that both ASUS and Nvidia had him running in circles, with both parties telling the buyer to contact the other for assistance on the matter. Keep in mind that the buyer’s original price of $4607 was already more than twice the RTX 5090’s original MSRP.
It should be noted that the order was initially placed directly through Nvidia. However, Nvidia blames ASUS for the cancellation. Needless to say, this situation left the buyer in quite the stressful situation.
Anyhow, ASUS refunded the buyer’s original amount, leaving him no option but to purchase the RTX 5090 at the new price of nearly $5090. This incident once again goes to show just how bad things currently are for the PC market.
It’s a miracle, then, that some have managed to buy entire PCs for as low as $800 recently.
