Has Xbox's New Leadership Lost The Plot Already?

Story Highlight
  • Ex-PlayStation boss says Xbox team doesn’t have the basic understanding of the industry.
  • He says you can only survive in interactive entertainment if you know what to do.
  • Xbox has been making contradicting remarks and is now going through restructuring.

This past month has been a rollercoaster for Xbox, starting from winning back its audience based on some much-needed changes, and now once again being under fire as there are solid rumors of mass layoffs and studio closures.

A former PlayStation boss has also weighed in on the situation and called out Xbox for a basic misunderstanding of the industry. He wrote that the company is misleading people, and that is not how things work in this world.

Why it matters: The company has indeed been very unclear about what the future holds. It has shown commitment to an increased focus on hardware and exclusives, but it still doesn’t guarantee a successful path forward.

Former PS boss says Xbox doesn’t understand the basics of the industry

A game designing consultant posted on all the recent changes Xbox has made over the past weeks, and how there’s been so much uncertainty. Shawn Layden seemed to agree with it and gave his own two cents.

Layden wrote that Xbox leadership doesn’t have the basic understanding of how things work in the interactive entertainment space, and the company is going through an identity crisis, trying to win back what it lost.

The new leadership has made some right and questionable decisions at the same time

He said he’s not trying to be a ‘hater’, but this is the truth. So, in a way, Layden wants Xbox to do better and pave a strong way forward by identifying what it actually wants to do. It isn’t too clear what its focus is right now.

There have been claims that Microsoft wanted to sell Xbox as a whole, but of course, that hasn’t happened. However, that could still be on the line if the company doesn’t deliver concrete results with its upcoming changes.
