"I'll Stick With PC And Skip Mario And Zelda For A While!"

Story Highlight
  • Switch 2 was officially announced yesterday.
  • The former Blizzard boss tweeted that he would pass on the console after the announcement.
  • He elaborated on his tweet that the console will cost much more but offer the same low frames.

Finally, after a year of rumours and leaks, Nintendo has officially announced the Switch 2, which will be available in the first week of June for $449.

While many interesting details about the handheld were revealed during yesterday’s event, including that titles like Elden Ring are also coming to the Switch 2, the console price has failed to impress many.

Soon after the Switch 2 was unveiled, an ex-Blizzard boss stated that the console would be a hard pass for its huge price and the same low frames.

Why it matters: Although the console’s price has already been criticized, it has been suggested that the cost of Switch 2 could go even higher following the new US tariffs.

Soon after Nintendo officially announced Switch 2, former Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra tweeted that the console was a hard pass for him.

Following that, one of his followers asked Mike for his strong stance. Replying to the tweet, Ybarra stated that since he only plays Mario and Zelda on the console, it will cost him more with the same low frames, which he doesn’t think is worth it.

I basically play Mario and Zelda on it. Switch 2 will cost more, same low frames, $80 games, etc. I’ll stick with PC and skip Mario and Zelda for a while.

-Mike Ybarra

Since Mario Kart World was just announced for $80 on Switch 2, more publishers would likely follow the same price, which is another reason why Mike has decided to stick to the PC.

Mike further discussed the console in the comments, stating that it’s best not to believe the marketing frames until third-party developers test and publish the game results.

It’s less powerful vs. today’s consoles and they barely do 4K 60 uniformly.

It remains to be seen how the console will perform at launch. Although the console has significant upgrades over its base model, its price is still being criticized.
