Elden Ring came out in 2022 and became an instant classic. FromSoftware’s latest title offered the studio’s most refined gameplay experience combined with an open world unlike any other to win the hearts of millions of players worldwide.
While the discussions around the industry have moved on to the new games from this year, the 2022 classic has undoubtedly left a significant mark on the industry. Elden Ring was released on this day last year, winning numerous accolades and awards in the months following its release.
Before Elden Ring, FromSoftware had already become synonymous with high-quality releases, but the developer’s challenging approach to gameplay pushed many gaming fans away from the studio’s games.
However, Elden Ring not only managed to bring more players into the souls-like genre but also encouraged them to appreciate the challenge provided by each new game from the developer.
The title is no stranger to awards, winning more than one Game of The Year award and becoming the highlight for The Game Awards 2022. It also faced tough competition from PlayStation’s God of War Ragnarok but significantly outperformed the latest release from Sony Santa Monica.
In addition to critical acclaim, Elden Ring became a massive financial success for Bandai Namco. Having sold more than 20 million copies, the game has since become FromSoftware’s most successful gaming product.
Elden Ring also features Game of Thrones writer George R.R. Martin. His writing became a valuable asset to the game, complimenting and enhancing the incredible gameplay featured throughout the experience.
Director Hidetaka Miyazaki has also confirmed that more content is planned for the 2022 GOTY winner. A PVP arena has already been added to the game, but DLC, similar to expansions from previous FromSoftware games, is expected in the near future.
