Elden Ring Dethroned The Witcher 3 DLC!

Story Highlights
  • Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree has managed to best The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine as the highest-rated DLC to date.
  • This DLC delivers on all fronts, offering plenty of content without sacrificing the quality.
  • Both the base game as well as the expansion are currently the top-sellers on Steam.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree just received an immensely positive reception. The DLC is being deemed as one of the greatest releases ever for a game. It has even managed to beat The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine to become the highest-ever rated DLC.

Why it matters: Shadow of the Erdtree was hugely-anticipated and boy has it delivered. The expansion and the base game have now managed to become the top-sellers on Steam, completely delivering the hype.

Elden Ring is arguably the best FromSoftware game to have ever graced the gaming industry.

So, expectations from the expansion were also through the roof. To nobody’s surprise, FromSoftware has once again managed to cement its place as one of the greatest developers.

Blood and Wine currently sits at a 92 Metacritic rating, which was the highest ever for a DLC until recently. Shadow of the Erdtree has managed to best it with a ridiculously high score of 95.

Looking at the reviews, nearly everyone has given it flawless scores. They point to the incredibly dense map, challenging encounters, and the same attributes that made Elden Ring so great in the first place.

The DLC is also said to be much bigger than anticipated. It delivers over 40 hours of content, with the map rivaling most full games. In addition, there are more than 40 boss fights, with 10 of them being major ones.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree comes with over 40 hours of content.

However, despite the scores, nothing changes the fact that both the DLCs are incredible in their own right. Both CDPR and FromSoftware have delivered expansions that are unarguably better than many full games out there.

It was recently revealed that Elden Ring has sold a whopping 25 million units globally. It was also the Game of The Year for 2022, and considering how good the expansion has turned out, it will definitely win a few awards.
