Crytek Developing ‘Unannounced Project’ Alongside Crysis 4, Expected To Be Original Crysis Remake

The Crysis Franchise Might Be Returning In Full Force!

Story Highlight
  • A new job listing for a lead position reveals that Crytek is hiring for an unannounced game.
  • This title is expected to be the remake of the original Crysis or something related to Hunt Showdown.
  • The studio had been working on Crysis 4, but it was put on hold early last year.

The Crysis franchise made Crytek influential among AAA studios of the time. Crysis 3 launched in 2013, and fans have been waiting for the next one since. We know that a ‘great team’ was working on the next title back in 2023.

But it was put on hold temporarily after the studio got affected by the ongoing layoff wave in early 2025. Its development might have resumed since the game’s cancellation was never announced.

New evidence now reveals that Crytek is at least allocating resources to a whole new unannounced project. We have found a new job listing for the Development Director role at Crytek. The team might be working on a full-fledged remake of the original Crysis.

Why it matters: It appears that Crytek has multiple games in development at the same time, and the studio might be bouncing back after suffering layoffs earlier last year. However, it’s unclear whether this new project is Crysis or Hunt Showdown-related.

The job listing for such a lead role suggests the project is in the very skeletal stages of development. The new game will also likely be a smaller venture if Crysis 4 is also in active development.

The director would have to oversee the entire game creation process, control the budget, and so on. Unfortunately, the vague listing does not give much else away about the unannounced entry.

If not a Crysis remake, then the new entry could be related to Hunt Showdown, perhaps a campaign for the highly popular multiplayer experience. We may even see a brand new IP. A Warhead sequel would also be a lovely surprise for fans of the classic FPS series.

The development director needs to have solid experience for this project.

Crytek and Saber Interactive already launched a Crysis Remastered trilogy experience, which saw a mixed reception. A full remake of the original could prove to be the redemption arc the franchise needs.

Do you think Crytek would be working on a full-fledged Crysis remake while also developing the next mainline game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
