- After Black Myth: Wukong’s massive success, China has announced a new AAA FPS title dubbed The Defiant.
- It is set during the intense Sino-Japanese war period and features puzzle-solving and action-shooting elements.
- The game is in the skeletal stages of development, so we may not hear anything about a release date for a while.
China’s foray into the AAA gaming market has certainly been slower but also steady at the same time. After Black Myth: Wukong caused a massive tidal wave in the whole industry, everyone suspected that we might not hear anything about the next major China project for a long time. However, the emerging coalition of talent now appears to be going for the FPS genre next.
China has now announced a new AAA FPS title set during the distressing Sino-Japanese War. Dubbed The Defiant, it aims to be a massive competitor for established franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield and could turn the entire genre on its head with its intense gameplay.
Why it matters: The announcement of a new Chinese AAA FPS title entails that giants in the genre, like Call of Duty and Battlefield, might have fresh competition soon.
The Defiant was announced only a few days ago with a gorgeous trailer, showing compelling running gameplay footage instead of just some eye-candy CGI.
The FPS will feature puzzle-solving and action-shooting elements and take you across different battlefields in the country. The gameplay also appears to be divided into various chapters.
However, that is not all, as the game will feature a rich gun system and FPS mechanics that easily reach AAA levels.
Nonetheless, there are some noticeable flaws in the trailer, which is understandable given the game’s early development period.
All in all, it is worth noting that The Defiant is in the skeletal stages of development, so we may not hear about a release date for years to come. However, both the fans and sceptics have high expectations when the early footage already looks as appealing as some COD titles.
