Several Major Projects In Active Development!

Story Highlight
  • CDPR has only launched one big game in the last 8 years.
  • The studio now wants to release major games more frequently.
  • Currently, there are many projects in development, such as the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and The Witcher 4.

CDPR is the famous developer behind many of this industry’s biggest RPGs. The studio was previously known for the Witcher series, and then later, it released Cyberpunk 2077 in 2020. This game initially became a low point in CDPR’s history.

However, Cyberpunk 2077’s perception has completely shifted over time. Now, the team is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 as well as The Witcher 4. Both games are expected to require a few more years of work, but the studio wants to release major games more frequently

Why it matters: Like other teams in the industry, CDPR is now trying to figure out how to cope with the 5-6-year development cycles of modern AAA releases.

Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077 Was A Complete Mess On Launch, But Now It Looks A Completely Different Game

As noted by Neogaf, on Tuesday, during CDPR’s quarterly earnings call, the company was asked whether it wants to focus on more than one large game simultaneously.

You can definitely expect us to release more titles, and the cadence of launches is something we definitely plan to increase.

-Joint CEO Michal Nowakowski

The CEO also said that the company was working on two projects at the time of the development of Phantom Liberty. The DLC is said to be a game-sized project, as 300 people worked on it for a long time.

While working on the expansion, one team was working on The Witcher 4, while another team led the development of Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel. Therefore, moving ahead with this approach, the developer aims to target more than one game simultaneously.

As of now, the company is still working on multiple projects. Apart from its two biggest sequels, they have other games in the works, like Project Sirius and one in Boston with The Molasses Flood.

Among the other projects, The Witcher 1 Remake has a lot of potential. If CDPR can balance these releases, it might be able to launch several games in the next ten years.

The CEO hasn’t revealed when these titles will be released. However, it should still end up being much quicker than just two major releases in one decade.
