Black Ops 7 has widely become known as one of Call of Duty’s worst releases. A lackluster campaign, use of AI art, and growing franchise fatigue have all contributed to users quickly losing interest in the series’ latest entry.
However, Black Ops 7 still boasted a solid overall critic score on Metacritic, at least initially. With more reviews now available on the platform, the critic score too has taken a major nosedive.
Why it matters: Initially, Black Ops 7 had a much higher rating, even beating EA’s best-selling Battlefield 6 by a small margin.
Looking at Metacritic, Black Ops 7 currently boasts an average score of 69/100 after 37 critic reviews.
This score was as high as 84/100 after the first wave of reviews, leading to a huge discrepancy between the critic and user reviews. Although this difference still exists, many would say that Black Ops 7’s critic score now more accurately reflects the game’s overall quality.
Certain outlets have scored the game as low as 40/100, while others have given Black Ops 7 a rating of 75/100. Reviews are as mixed as they can get here, so the average score has settled just below 70. Here are a few of the most recent scores:

Still, Black Ops 7 boasts better critical reception than Modern Warfare 3. Ultimately, the campaign holds it back, with many reviews acknowledging the merits of the multiplayer and zombie experience.
More negative reviews, however, have even dubbed the multiplayer stale. Comparisons against Battlefield 6 are also largely unfavorable for the title in reviews.
Recent comments from Activision suggest the game isn’t doing the best. Compared to last year’s announcement of record-breaking results, the gaming giant has simply thanked players for appreciating its latest Black Ops release in a vague social media post.
