No Split-Screen Co-op On Xbox Series S!

Baldur’s Gate 3 is days away from its release on the PS5 console. Previously, the game has made headlines after a massive launch on Steam, shattering all expectations from Larian Studios.

However, the studio hinted at a major delay for Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series S|X consoles. Following development hurdles with split-screen co-op on Xbox Series S, the game was expected to arrive on the consoles next year.

In a surprising turn of events, the CEO of Larian Studios has confirmed the game is headed to Xbox Series S|X in 2023.

Why it matters: This is a great announcement for Xbox since Baldur’s Gate 3 is among the candidates for Game of The Year in 2023, and the Xbox Series S|X release will allow millions of users to enjoy the RPG.

According to Swen Vincke, Larian Studios has come to a solution after recent discussions with Phil Spencer.

While the studio faced challenges implementing split-screen co-op on the Xbox Series S, Microsoft did not allow the studio to skip the feature for the budget console due to its parity clause for the Xbox Series S|X.

However, the Larian Studios CEO confirms that the Xbox Series S will launch without this feature in 2023, with the feature being limited to the more capable Xbox Series X.

The announcement does not clarify if Larian Studios plans to introduce the feature to Xbox Series S at a later date or skip it altogether, but the announcement suggests a special arrangement has been made for the situation.

Nonetheless, the announcement confirms that Xbox Series S|X will not miss out on a critically acclaimed release in 2023. Following a plethora of exceptional critical reviews, Baldur’s Gate 3 has climbed to the top of Metacritic.

The RPG is currently tied with Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom, with a score of 96/100, and this announcement ensures it can reach an even wider audience through the Xbox ecosystem.
