Baldur’s Gate 3 Still Averaging 644K Daily Players on Steam Alone

Baldur's Gate 3 Still Unstoppable 6 Months Later!

Story Highlight
  • Larian Studios reveals Baldur’s Gate 3 is still averaging over 600K players.
  • This player count does not include console users like the PS5 and Xbox Series S|X.
  • The developer is still supporting the game, promising cross-platform mods for the future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took the industry by storm in August last year. During the full Steam launch, the game almost became 2023’s biggest Steam release, reaching nearly 900K concurrent players.

In the days to follow, the CRPG lost players, but average user counts remained surprisingly high. According to Larian Studios, several months after release, the game still averages over 500K daily players.

Why it matters: Such figures are not easy to achieve, even for multiplayer titles. The fact that Larian Studios has managed this average in a single-player game is nothing short of a miracle.

This information comes from the director of publishing at Larian Studios. He states that Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to average 644K players on Steam alone. It is important to note that the game was released on this platform six months ago.

Combining console numbers, this figure likely approaches a million daily players, which is incredible for a single-player title. Meanwhile, a game like Hogwarts Legacy, last year’s biggest PC game, has lost most of its active players on the platform.

Even rivals like Starfield have suffered a massive decline in player counts, putting Baldur’s Gate 3 ahead. Recently, the platform has seen highly successful launches like Palworld and Helldivers 2.

Amid a slew of games to choose from, it appears many have found themselves returning to the intricate world of Baldur’s Gate 3. A major reason for this success has been Larian Studios’ commitment to post-launch support.

The developer has constantly updated the game in the last six months. Yesterday, the team announced official mod support, which will extend to elements like the UI, spells, customization, and more gameplay mechanics.

To further enhance modding, Larian Studios plans to introduce cross-platform support. These features serve as additional reasons to play what is considered the new bar for CRPGs today.

Unlike most games, Baldur’s Gate 3 does not focus on microtransactions or live-service content roll-out. Larian Studios remains committed to enhancing the game with free updates, keeping players hooked through the sheer quality of gameplay and story on offer.
